CFFA is pleased to announce that our well attended and often acclaimed fly tying and fly fishing classes are accepting reservations for 2018. Headed up by Pete Naples, Education Chair, and Rich Gilligan the dates and info are as follows:
Beginner Fly Tying Classes:
Thursdays, beginning Jan.4, 2018 running to February, 8,
2018.
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Location: Cabela's, East Hartford, 2nd floor Conference
Room.
Topics by Class : 1) Introduction to Fly Tying - Hooks, Materials, Techniques, Dries, Wets, Terrestials, etc.; 2) Tellico Nymph and Gold Hares Ear Nymph; 3)Blue Wing Olive,Turkey Tail Soft Hackle, and Dark Cahill; 4) CDC Mayfly, Light Cahill; 5)Elk Hair Caddis, Rusty Spinner; 6) Parachute Ant, Mickey Finn.
Tentative Instructors: Mike Stewart, Leslie Wrixon, Bob Winot, Pete Naples, Gary Steinmiller. Mike Stewart and Leslie Wrixon are well known professional fly tyers. Mike Stewart is a member of the Board of Governors of the Fly Fishers International and is recognized as a fly tying instructor by Fly Fishers International.
Costs: Applies to Fly Tying Class and Fly Fishing Class. Covers all materials, vises, and instructors.
Adult non-member - $50.00; Adult CFFA member - $40.00;
Youths 16 and under -$30.00; Adults who attend with paid youth may take course at no cost.
Non-members will receive free one year membership to CFFA with each paid class.

Beginner Fly Fishing Classes - Learn the ins and outs of fly fishing from casting to line choice, safety and life cycle of insects as well as selecting appropriate fly fishing gear. Classroom instruction as well as two days on water. One on One experienced instruction.
Dates: Classroom at Cabela's as above - Thursdays, 6:30 PM March 8, 2018 to March 29, 2018.
Casting Day on Water at Firemen's Pond in East Hartford, Saturday, April 7, 2018.
On Water Fly Fishing Day - Willimantic River - Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Topics will include: Fly rods, reels and lines; Tippets and leaders; Characteristics of trout and diet of Trout; Reading fast, slow water, large and small stream tactics; Safety, wading and choosing appropriate fly fishing equipment without breaking your budget. Actual on water instruction with experienced fly fisherpersons.
