CFFA Announces Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Class Signup for 2019
Brief Overview of Courses
We demystify the sport
of fly fishing. The fly tying class covers the myriad species of
flies, how to tie specific patterns and the materials available to craft a fly
by hand. Fly Fishing classes introduce students to casting, safety and the life
cycle of insects, as well as selecting appropriate fly fishing gear.
Classroom instruction as well as two days on water. All classes are
taught one on one by experienced instructors.
Beginner Fly Tying Curriculum Details:
Class 1: Jan 10: Introduction to Fly Tying - Tools and materials, Tie a Streamer Fly.
Class 2: Jan. 17: Nymphs
Class 3: Jan. 24: Emergers
Class 4: Jan. 31: Dry Flies
Class 5: Feb. 07: More Dry Flies and Spinners
Class 6: Feb. 14: Streamer Flies and Terrestrial Flies
Instructors: Mike Stewart, Leslie Wrixon, Bob Winot, Pete
Naples, Gary Steinmiller. Note: Mike Stewart and Leslie Wrixon are are
professional fly tyers.
Beginner Fly Fishing Curriculum Details:
Class 1, March 21: Fly Rods, Line and Reels, Safety on the Water
Class 2, March 28: Characteristics of Trout and and Diet
Class 3, April 4: Stream Tactics - Reading Water Conditions
Class 4, April 11: Leaders and Knots
Class 5, April 27: Outdoor Casting Instruction - Police and
Firemen’s Association Pond, East Hartford.
Class 6, May 4: Willimantic River On Water Day - Fly Fish
with CFFA Members.

Time: Thursday Evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Fees: Applies to Fly Tying Class and Fly Fishing Class. Covers
all materials, vises and tools. Each class requires separate fee.
Adult non-member -$50.00; Adult CFFA member - $40.00;
*Junior Member - 21 and under, $30.00; Adults who attend with Paid Junior Member may take class at no cost.
