2017 Beginner Fly Tying Classes Fly Fishing Classes Accepting Reservations
CFFA is pleased to announce that our well attended and acclaimed fly tying and fly fishing classes are accepting reservations for 2017. Classes led by Pete Naples, Education Chair, and Rich Gilligan.

 

 

 

Beginner Fly Tying:

 

Dates and Times: Thursdays, beginning Jan.5, 2017 running to February, 9, 2017.  6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Location: Cabela's, East Hartford, 2nd floor Conference Room.

 

Topics by Class :  1) Introduction to Fly Tying - Hooks, Materials, Techniques, Dries, Wets, Terrestials, etc.;  2) Tellico Nymph and Gold Hares Ear Nymph; 3)Blue Wing Olive,Turkey Tail Soft Hackle, and Dark Cahill; 4) CDC Mayfly, Light Cahill; 5)Elk Hair Caddis, Rusty Spinner;  6) Parachute Ant, Mickey Finn.

 

Tentative Instructors:  Mike Stewart, Leslie Wrixon, Bob Winot, Pete Naples, Gary Steinmiller.

 

Beginner Fly Fishing Classes:

 

Learn the ins and outs of fly fishing from casting to line choice and safety.  Classroom instruction as well as two days on water. One on One experienced instructors.

 

Dates and Time: Thursdays, beginning March 9, 2017 to March 30, 2017, 6- 9:00 p.m. Location: 2nd floor Classroom at Cabela's, East Hartford.

 

Casting Instruction Day on Water at PBA pond in East Hartford, Saturday, April 1, 2017. (Date may change based on attendees needs and weather)

 

On Water Fly Fishing Day - Willimantic River - Saturday, April 22, 2017. (Date may change based on attendees needs and weather)

 

Topics will include: Fly rods, reels and lines; Tippets and leaders; Characteristics of trout and Diet of Trout; Reading fast, slow water, large and small stream tactics; Safety, wading and choosing appropriate fly fishing equipment without breaking your budget. Actual on water instruction with experienced fly fisherpersons.

 

Costs: Applies to Fly Tying Class and Fly Fishing Class. Covers all materials, vises, and instructors.

 

Adult non-member - $50.00; Adult CFFA member - $40.00; Youths 16 and under -$30.00; Adults who attend with paid youth may take course at no cost. Non-members will receive free one year membership to CFFA with each paid class. Maximum Attendance is limited to 20 persons per class, so make sure to register early.
